This is, in my opinion, completely inexcusable.

What do you think, Oppo?

For me, it goes like this - there's nothing inherently wrong with a diesel work truck. The Cummin's is a good engine for heavy lifting and that is, to my mind, its entire and only purpose. However; when a Bro gets his hands on a diesel and turns it into a lifted street queen sheerly to broadcast their bruh-status, it's only a matter of time before the "smoke out" behavior overtakes their already diminished sense of social responsibility.

For me, it results in this - I will call the cops as it's illegal here, I will follow you all the way home and I will park behind your bro truck, snapping pictures and waiting for the police to arrive. If I have the camera handy, I'll record the asinine behavior and share it across social media with license and location information. Furthermore, I'm Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino , "Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn't have fucked with? That's me." I don't take abuses of social obligation well and tend to think that if I can get involved, even at my own risk, I may well save someone from having to endure the same in the future. Every time I see one of these video's where the people getting "smoked out" just grin an bear it, I die a little inside. If we, those who are able, do not take it upon ourselves to react to social injustice then, I tend to believe, others who aren't able will be the victims of this kind of asshat behavior (also, I'm trained).

How about you?

PS, I bring this up as, while the wife and I were out today, I saw this taking place behind me in traffic and was not, sadly, able to intervene. I feel guilty about that.

I hate the bro diesels.

They lose HP when they do that too....I've seen properly tuned diesels that smoke a little off the line and thats it.

Its so stupid, I threw a wrench through a window after they smoked my car out. I was pissed.

You understand that in many states it may not actually be illegal right? For instance the laws for many states have a specific number of seconds and a specific density of visual obstruction an emission must last before it's illegal... and even then, the situation you would be creating by following them would be bordering on much more illegal.

These douche nozzles being stupid does not suddenly validate other idiot behavior on your part. Stalking, menacing, harassment, instigation, etc, are all things they could charge you with if you do what you suggest incorrectly even insignificantly. As far as the law is concerned, this infraction would rank somewhere around hearing someones subs... and as such is about as low of a violation as you can get on the ladder, making you unable to use the citizen's arrest argument.

The fact that the vehicle is not a lifted bro truck is interesting.

Im not down for rolling coal in cities and stuff but i have some "redneck" friends and out in the country we will roal coal for fun while off-roading of something.

And i want to say that is some pussy smoke. A TDI could roll more coal than that.

The vehicle is just running rich... if you really want to, you can do the same thing, then turn it back down when you go in for emissions testing. Unfortunately, unless you are driving a diesel vehicle, you will probably cause your self a lot of problems. From the looks of this video all they are doing is backing way off the throttle and them hammering it to go wide open, making the system go as rich as it can before gaining the revs to really start burning efficiently again.

I can understand your stance on smoke shows but the counterpoint I'd offer would be the idea that the "Bro'd" diesel truck is no different than the Riced Civic is no different than the Mulleted Corvette is no different than a 458 with with a competition exhaust system. All of them are modified vehicles with varying modifications for performance/style that include aftermarket exhaust systems that increase pollution both in terms of air quality and noise levels. Sure it's easy to single out the diesel guys because that pollution is visible but is that difference enough to make public shaming and calling the cops the only logical conclusion?

I see so much hate on this site for drivers of big diesel trucks but in so many ways they are enthusiasts just like us. I mean really what's more Jalop than taking a mudane utilitarian vehicle and turning it into a performance monster (see CTS-V Wagon, Volvo R wagons, Audi RS wagons, etc) Even though there are Dbaggers among them it's not like there aren't just as many of them on our side of the aisle (see guy who does burnouts leaving car shows, street drifters, guys with steering wheels out windows, etc).

I'm not advocating that everybody has to love big diesel trucks but I do think that it's somewhat backwards to treat them like some assholes only club that doesn't deserve any respect.

As I don't live in the States, or any State within the Union, I cannot comment on individual states laws. I can, however, speak to the legality of this activity in the Province in which I reside.

And I understand the point which you are trying to make in regards to stalking/following/tracking and I'd be inclined to agree if not for the clause, as offered, that this would follow my placing a call to the authorities. Were the dispatcher or 9-1-1 operator to direct me to disengage, I would do so. However, there is absolutely nothing illegal about me utilizing the public roads to go wherever I want barring a restraining order or the like. Private property laws apply, of course, as do those associated with creating an obstruction or unsafe conditions in traffic and/or on public roads.

I understand, from your reply, that your reaction would differ from my own and seems to be predicated on the legality of such a reaction given your individual location. That said, in some States there is either pending or ratified legislation which describes this action of "rolling coal" as assault, so it really depends on where you live.

I appreciate your input.

The key difference, at least to my mind, is that one can be intentional while the other may not.

Good point. If I may counter, the video was meant only as an example of being an intentional douchebag. These guys set out to smoke people out. I have almost no problem with work trucks, working hard, that may belch smoke - granted, there's a good argument for maintaining your equipment but that has to be paired with the reality of expense and cost.

If someone rolls up beside you and horks a big loogie into your car, flicks their cigarette butt into your cabin or dumps their car-load of McDonalds bags in your vehicle it's a lot different.

The key issue here, at lest in my opinion, is intent. These guys who get a kick out of rolling coal are no better than or the same as any of the putrid examples I offered above.

Where I live? Yes.

It's the same as a mischief charge, but the real asset here is that it gives law enforcement an excuse and reason to take a good look at the driver, the vehicle and even passengers. Typically these are the guys who have a few matters outstanding, from warrants to tickets to improperly adjusted headlamps etc etc.

I'm right there with you, Long.

They are no better then anyone else who ignores the welfare of others in pursuit of their own ambitions. From unreasonably loud exhausts through to oil burning beaters, these Coal Burners are in the same camp but there is a difference... at least to my mind. That difference comes down to intention; are you setting out to be a prick and fuck people over or is it perhaps something more innocent?

I've been smoked out by diesel cube trucks, hauling goods from A to B and while it bothered me, it wasn't on the level of someone throwing their cigarette butt into my car on purpose which, again to my mind, is about on par with rolling coal.

It's why I don't hate lifted trucks; intention. It's why I do hate lifted trucks that go around smoking people out because fuck you brah!

He'd probably think you wronged him. He probably doesn't even think he fucked you over because it was just a puff of smoke. That's the nature of this kind of person, they don't see both or all sides of an issue - they view everything from their singular perspective and lack the ability to step outside their own interests in order to consider the greater good.

I wouldn't advocate what you're suggesting, however; as two wrongs almost never make a right.

You do realize that more fuel=more power.

The more boom you can shove in a cylinder the more push you get on the tires.

12/15/2013 at 22:35

Kinja'd!!!0

The more fuel more power doesn't always work.

You cna run soo rich you lose power. You have to find the good mix of air and fuel

Kinja'd!!! TheD0k_2many toys 2little time > Nick, Drives a Cobalt LT
12/15/2013 at 22:48

Kinja'd!!!0

Yes but with diesel engines the more fuel you put in the more the turbocharger pushes air in making more power. You can burn rich easier on N/A vehicle than something that is turbocharged. That is the point of forced aspiration to allow you to shove as much fuel in as you can because the turbo/supercharger will push more air in.

Lets just agree to disagree :]

Sorry if i came off as a jerk.

Your list of potential actions will probably net you a restraining order and Court ordered counseling. Not the fuzzy sense of self satisfaction and social triumph that you were expecting.

These guys are no worse than the jackass in a fart canned import, the "gangsta" rolling on 30s , any asshole that decides to throttle it out of a car show in a car they have no business driving or the 2 wheeled terrorists that seem to populate every highway in the warm months.

While I in no way condone their actions and abhor the stupidity of them, you have the wrong attitude to take in dealing with this or really any other perceived outside "threat".

It is undeniably rash to think that you are the baddest mutherfucker on the planet or even in your area and base your actions on that thought. Think about it, if you live in a "stand your ground" state you could end up lying dead next to one of these vehicles and your killer could get off scot free because you "attacked" him or he perceived you as a lethal threat to his life.

Just stay in your vehicle or keep your distance from the offender(s), take pics or video and report them to the Police. That way you will be safer and are less likely to get drawn into a confrontation that may have dire consequences for either or both parties in the end.

Kinja'd!!! Lets Just Drive > Philbert/Phartnagle

Kinja'd!!!1

Given that I don't live in a 'State at all, let's leave aside the "stand your ground" assumption and instead look at what I've actually suggested.

1.) Phoning the police.

2.) Maintaining visual contact with the vehicle/occupants.

3.) Ensure that this illegal activity is discouraged by the proper authorities.

Sure, maybe I get angry and throw all that crap out the window but, and let's be honest, that's exactly what this sort of activity is looking for; a reaction. So why not give it to them, and with a vengeance?
